Breve resumo:
Though apparently regionalist, Rosalía de Castro's poetry fits the spirit of its epoch that praised the dimension of autochthony and regionalismo Her voice, stemming from a popular matrix, unveils the social injustice and the sombre fate of humble people, who are sensitive lovers of their native place and of their home, and who are exiled due to the need to find work. The writer expressively resorts to references taken from the medievallyric tradition, as it is usual in Romanticism and from the context of Galician assertiveness. Castro's knowledge of classical writers provides her with expressive resources in Pindar, Sappho, Virgil, Ovid, in order to express the frailty ofthe subject's individual and social existence, under the mark of a shadow - an existential shadow that is characteristic of the Galician landscape.
