Breve resumo:
Introduction: Laparoscopy has become the standard approach for the majority of splenectomy cases. This procedure bears low morbidity and mortality rates, with significant patient advantages. This article is a retrospective review of 45 patients submitted to laparoscopic splenectomy in our Center, and a comparison of the obtained data with those of other reports. Methods: Retrospective review of 45 patients submitted to laparoscopic splenectomy between January, 2006 and April 2009. Several perioperative data were collected and compared with published reports. Results: The median operative time was 117,8 (±45,4) min, with statistically significant correlation with the spleen weight. There were 4,4% of intra-operative complications, 2,2% conversion rate (to subcostal laparotomy), 11,1% of post-operative complications and 4,4% reintervention rate. The median hospital stay was 4 days. Conclusion: Our results are similar to other published data, with less operative time and conversion rate but increased hospital stay. These results emphasize the feasibility and advantages of this procedure. Keywords: Splenectomy, laparoscopy, minimally invasive surgery
