Abstract: Starting from the recognition of the social inequalities that characterize Brazil, more precisely, about the division between young people who live in the periphery and those who are in areas considered central, it seeks to understand how young people from the periphery are represented in media narratives. Journalistic activities, relying on the newspaper O Globo and on the field of Cultural Studies. It is understood that media products, when describing and discussing their various themes, not only portray realities, but, in a more complex way, educate and produce truths from what they publish. Thus, the research problem is based on the following question: How and which truths about young people from the periphery are produced through reports
from the newspaper O Globo? The investigation was carried out from the perspective of Cultural Studies, supported by reading 40 newspaper reports, published between 2017 and 2022, in their online digital version. To support the discussions, authors were used who talk about the articulation between education and the media, and also about the conditions that surround young people living in Brazilian peripheries. Based on this, it is identified that young people, in journalistic articles, are often associated with the need to overcome their difficulties from the logic of entrepreneurship, or with violence, which involves the daily life of the places where they live. In this sense, it is emphasized that the imbalance of public policies produces vulnerabilities, however, the matters operate in the sense of valuing social actions and individual movements as possibilities for transforming life.​
