Breve resumo:
Given the geographical and geological conditions of the Azores, many short story writers portray the island as a collective living space constantly threatened by violent natural phenomena, which feed a strong religiosity. Two aspects that stand out in the religious theme are the representation of those disasters as a form of God punishing the islanders’ sins, and the appeal to divine protection, perhaps the last and only refuge of a people whose survival is cyclically challenged by the forces of nature.
