Breve resumo:
The municipal governance of Braga at the beginning of the 16th century was applied by the “homens-bons” of the city, in a close connection with the archbishop, lord of the city, and in connection with the king, lord of the kingdom. The relation between these powers will be analysed from the perspective of the oldest city council books of Braga, which date from the beginning of the 16th century, more specifically from 1509 to 1519. These books register the sessions of the town’s council, but also royal and archepiscopal diplomas, property titles, price schedules, regiments of crafts, among others, which translate this relationship between powers.
